The Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital is one of the premere Curative Medical Institutions in Sri Lanka and the South Asian region, a Postgraduate Medical Training Centre and Nurses Training Centre. Sri Lanka has received distinction among developing countries for the high quality of medical care its people enjoy. The SJGH stands with the vanguard in Curative Medicine, offering services difficult to obtain in most parts of the region. It is classified as a Tertiary Care facility in the well ordered referal hierarchy of Sri Lanka's state medical system. Set in serene surroundings away from the metropolitan maze and haze, SJGH affords a tranquil environment coupled with excellent medical care. Established in 1984, the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital and Post Graduate Medical Training Centre is a Gift from the Government of Japan to the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, as a Token of Friendship and Co-operation between the two countries.
