Paying Wards
In addition, there are two classes of paying wards, where the patients bear the total cost of their treatment and stay.
Class I There is one class I ward, which has eighteen (18) individual rooms with air conditioning, television and telephone.
Class II There are two class II wards, which are comprised of forty eight (48) beds each, divided into six-bedded cubicles.
All consultants of SJGH, past and present, and consultants from the state and private sectors who have been granted approval by the SJGH board, are permitted to admit private patients to these wards.
Operation Theatre Complex
The OT complex at SJGH has been designed according to the concept of unidirectional flow of material. As such, there are eight (08) ORs surrounding a central sterilisation complex, which feed the ORs. This, together with a positive pressure air conditioning system, ensures maximum asepsis in the operating areas.
Radiology
This unit provides the standard range of Roengenographic investigations, as well as Ultrasonography and CT scanning.
Pathology
Divided into four sections - Biochemistry, Microbiology, Haematology and Histopathology, each headed by a consultant, this department provides all the standard pathology services.
Under the purview of the haematology section is a fully-functional Blood Bank, which is self-sufficient in terms of blood stocks. It is not affiliated to the National Blood Transfusion Services, though NBTS guidelines are adhered to. Donors are meticulously screened for risk factors, and all donated blood is screened for HIV, Hepatitis B, Malarial Parasites and Treponema antibodies.
In addition to making components of donated whole blood, the unit provides Apheresis services for making component-rich extracts, as well as for medical therapeutic purposes.
Fibreoptic Endoscopy
This unit has facilities for F/O Bronchoscopy and Oesophago-gastro-duodenoscopy with ERCP.
