In Sri Lanka, late afternoon hours are busy times indeed. It is during this time that most folks find the time to take a leisurely walk to the nearby river, stream, or the community well for a refreshing bath. With the year round tropical climate this daily cold water wash is almost a prerequisite before settling down for the evening meal. These "watering holes" like rivers, streams and wells are also the meeting places where one can catch up on the local gossip, meet and make friends or conduct business and of course launder ones clothes..
