The art of making these beautiful trays, like the art of creating with lacquer, is passed on from father to son, or from one family member to another. When the father is busy tending to the needs of the small farm or the few milk cows, the daughter or the son can take over seamlessly. Here the big sister has taken over the from the father, while the little future designer is anxiously looking on for her turn. The design is usually a stylized lotus flower, created free-hand, often from memory and is hammered on using a nail with a smooth end to a thin brass or copper base secured on a soft wax base.
