Cabinet nod for electricity policy guidelines; 70% renewable by 2030

CEB notches 52 years of service to nation
Nov 2 (Island) Celebrating the 52nd anniversary of the CEB, yesterday Power Minister Gamini Lokuge said that everybody should be proud about the service it had rendered to the nation, especially in maintaining low tariffs to consumers despite high cost of power generation. Driver escaping with over Rs. 67Mn cash of private bank arrested
Nov 2 (DM) A driver who has fled with over Rs.67 million in cash which was being transported to be deposited in ATM trailers of a private bank, had been arrested by the STF at Rendapola area on the Kandy-Hatton Road. The STF said the driver was transporting money with a team of security officers of a private security firm from Colombo to Nuwara Eliya to deposit in the ATM trailers. Challenging impunity for crimes against journalists
Nov 3 (DM) Nov 2 is the Int'l Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. According to the CPJ in 2020 at least 22 journalists were murdered in retaliation for their work, more than double the total for 2019. CPJ states that 2021 numbers it has tracked is close to 2020 but that the political volatility in Afghanistan and other high risk nations makes the final 2021 total difficult to predict. 573 persons test positive for COVID-19
Nov 3 (FT) SL’s COVID-19 detections rose to 542,212 with 573 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday. The patients detected yesterday include 572 persons from the New Year cluster and one overseas arrival. 4,618 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.
