SAINT MARGARET MARY ALACOQUE

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690), a Visitandine religious, was the recipient of the well known revelations of the Sacred Heart.

SAINT MARIA GORETTI

Maria Goretti (1890-1902), born at Corinaldo, Italy, was stabbed to death by the son of her father's partner in farming when she steadfastly refused his invitation to sin. This martyr to purity was canonized on June 24, 1950.

SAINT MONICA

(332-387) The mother of Saint Augustine, won the gift of faith for her son through her tears and prayers. She is a model of perseverance in prayer as well as the model and patroness of Christian mothers.

SAINT PASCHAL BAYLON

Saint Paschal (1540-1592), a Spanish Franciscan lay brother, is one of our best models for devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.

SAINT PATRICK

(c. 385-461) Was born in some unknown town of Roman Britain. At sixteen he was captured by Irish raiders and sold as a slave in Ireland. Worldly and irresponsible before, he found God during the six years of his exile. He returned to Ireland in 432 as a bishop. In his labors of some thirty years he had the consolation of seeing a pagan country become largely Christian.

SAINT PAUL OF THE CROSS

Saint Paul of the Cross (1694-1775), founder of the Passionists, is a model for our devotion to the holy Cross and sacred Passion of our Savior.

SAINT PHILIP NERI

Saint Philip Neri (1515-1595), although not Roman by birth, spent both his lay and clerical years in working for souls in Rome. His unique apostolate included the formation of the Congregation of the Oratory. He is called the Apostle of Rome.

SAINT PIUS X

Pope Pius X (1835-1914), a native of Riese, near Venice, was the son of poor parents. During his pontificate (1903-1914) sacred music was reformed, frequent reception of Holy Communion was urged, and the teaching of Christian doctrine was stressed.

SAINT RITA

Saint Rita (1381-1457) was born at Cascia in Umbria, Italy. At the age of twelve she was force to marry an ill-tempered nobleman, who was a heavy cross to her for many years. After his death she joined the Augustinian nuns. Our Lord sealed His love for her by piercing her brow with a thorn from His sacred Crown. Saint Rita is almost without equal as the shining model of the unmarried, of wives and mothers and of religious.

SAINT ROSE OF LIMA

Saint Rose of Lima (1586-1617), the first saint of the Americas, took the habit of the Third Order of Saint Dominic and remained in the world, supporting her parents and practicing extraordinary penances. Whenever possible, she retired for prayer to a little grotto which she had built. Our Lord revealed Himself to her frequently. (Patroness of America, for all Christian mothers in particular).

>SAINT STANISLAUS KOSTKA

Saint Stanilslaus Kostka (1550-1568), who died very young and as a Jesuit novice, fled his country and his distinguished family in order to follow his vocation.
