College of Medical Administrators of Sri Lanka: 6th Annual Sessions 13-14th November 1998. Inauguration - 6.30 pm, 13th November 1998 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institution Auditorium. Scientific Sessions - 9 am onwards, 14th November at the Aldo Casetellani Memorial Auditorium.
College of Anaesthesiologists of Sri Lanka: Scientific Sessions22nd-24th January 1999 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. Inauguration - 6 pm, 22nd January 1999. Scientific sessions - 23-24th January 1999.

3.HEALTH INFORMATICS SOCIETY OF SRI LANKA (HISSL)
The Medical Informatics Committee is going ahead with plans to set up HISSL which will bring together all those interested in using and promoting the use of computers and information technology in health care service. The inaugural meeting of HISSL will be held soon. Watch out for the advertisement in the news papers. Attend the inaugural meeting and become a founder member.

4.SLSMA SPORTS PHYSICIAN DEVELOPMENT COURSE AND SPORTS MEDICINE ON THE WWW
A Team Physician Development Course was conducted by the SLSMA (Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association) from 18th to 20th September in Colombo. It was a course approved by the FIMS (Federation Internationale de Medicine Sportive) and the AFSM (Asian Federation of Sports Medicine).This was the first such course conducted in Sri Lanka and only the fourth in the Asian region. It was also the first time that a local body in the Asian region such as the SLSMA was allowed to conduct such a course.
The faculty of the course comprised of three foreign and 12 local lecturers. It was attended by 40 doctors from Sri Lanka and abroad. The course was supervised by Dr. Wahid Al Karusi from the Education Commission of FIMS. The course director was Prof. Rohan Jayasekara. Major General C Thurairaja and Capt. Nihal H Gunaratne were live wires behind the organization of the course.
Prof. K. M Chan, President AFSM and Vice President FIMS, who was the chief guest at the opening ceremony pledged his fullest support to develop Sports Medicine in Sri Lanka.
Dr. J.B. Peiris, the Director of PGIM, who was the chief guest at the closing ceremony highlighted the importance of starting a post graduate course in Sports Medicine and pledged his fullest cooperation to do so.
We congratulate the SLSMA for conducting the course and putting Sri Lanka in the Sports Medicine map.

6.MEDICINE ON THE WEB TO THE MASSES THROUGH RADIO AND TV
CINTEC - the Computer and Information Technology Council of Sri Lanka, is conducting an awareness programme about the Internet over the radio and TV. Medical information on the WEB has received much attention in these programmes. The live radio programmes could be heard over Radio Sri Lanka on Tuesdays at 9 am. Check the weekly TV schedule for the live programmes over Rupavahini. You can email your comments about these programmes to RADIO@cintec.lk.
