**The inaugural ‘E M Wijerama Endowment Lecture’ will be delivered by Dr C G Uragoda on 6, November 1998 at the Foundation Sessions.
**The recommendations made at the workshop on ‘Employment Opportunities for Medical Graduates’ have been sent to the Director General Health Services and the Honorable Minister of Health.
**Lecture on Wild Life - ‘Sri Lankan Elephants’ by Mr. Srilal Miththapala, Date : 8 August 1998, at 6.30 pm Venue : Lionel Memorial Auditorium, Entrance - Free
**Mim’s annual Sri Lanka 1998 The first edition of the Mims annual Sri Lanka 1998 is available for sale at SLMA office for Rs 400/= per copy.
**Declaration on Health published by the SLMA - Tamil Translation This booklet is now available at SLMA office free of charge for purchasing by any interested members. Copies of English and Sinhala translation are also available, for any interested members, free of charge
**SLMA membership cards These can be obtained now from the SLMA office on giving your address, designation , SLMA membership number, national identity card number and your signature on a membership card. Laminated cards will be issued after giving the above details on payment of Rs 25/=. You can use this card to obtain membership benefits from the commercial establishments which have agreed to give concessions to the members.

**Sri Lanka Dental Association Annual Scientific Sessions will be held on the 25th & 26th July 1998 at the Koggala Beach Hotel. The Oration will be on 25th July at 6.00 pm.
**19th all Nepal Medical Congress (ANEMECON - 19) from 6 - 9th January 1999 The Nepal Medical Association has informed us about the above annual medical conference. They welcome delegates from Sri Lanka for research paper presentations, Guest lectures, and Orations. Interested delegates please contact SLMA office for further details.
**Agents for Change Clinician Scientist Award Glaxo Wellcome invites applications for this international award from clinician investigators, under the age of 40 years who have recently published work on any aspect of infectious disease or its management, which has significant implications for future clinical practice (eg. work on mechanisms of resistance, new diagnostic techniques, mechanisms of pathogenesis, or host - pathogen interactions. Entries must have been submitted to, or published in, an international peer - reviewed journal or presented at an international congress since 1 September 1997. The winning entrant will receive a prize of US$ 7500. Closing date of entries - 1st November 1998.
**The 9th International Congress on Twin Studies organized by the International Society for Twin Studies was held from 4th to 6th June 1998 in Helsinki, Finland. The National Twin Registry-Sri Lanka, the first and only Twin Registry in the developing world, made its mark at the congress by presenting a poster on the Establishment of a Twin Register in Sri Lanka. The Registry was represented at the congress by Dr. Vajira H. W. Dissanayake. Twin Registry reports that over 4000 twin pairs have been registered and they welcome collaboration with local and foreign scientists. 3.VISIT BY DR. K.C LUN
Dr. K.C Lun Associate Professor Department of Community, Occupational and Family Medicine, Director Medical Informatics Programme and WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Informatics of the National University of Singapore delivered a lecture titled IT in Medicine at the Lionel Memorial Auditorium of SLMA on Saturday 11th July 1998 at 10 am. Dr Lun is also a past president of APAMI (the Asia Pacific Association of Medical Informatics).
The talk had to be arranged at short notice. However, it was well attended. We were encouraged to see many medical students in the audience.
It is significant that Dr. Lun was also able to meet with Deans of the faculties of Medicine at Colombo, Sri Jayawardenapura, Peradeniya and Galle following the meeting.
His visit will help to further strengthen the bonds between Singapore and Sri Lanka in the field of medical informatics. Dr. Lun had the following message for his Sri Lankan friends:
