SLMA MEDICAL DINNER DANCE Venue: Hotel Lanka Oberoi. Date: Friday the 11th of December, 1998.
112th SLMA ANNIVERSARY ACADEMIC SESSIONS 24 - 27 March 1999 at Hotel Topaz & Tourmaline, Kandy
MONTHLY CLINICAL MEETING Next meeting will be held on Tuesday 17th November at 12.15 pm. It will be conducted by Dr W.D.H. Perera, Consultant Dermatologist.
REGIONAL MEETING: SLMA and Matara Clinical Society. Dates: 5th and 6th December 1998. Venue: 5th Bay Beach Hotel - Weligama. 6th YMBA Matara. The programme will be announced later.
Workshop on Practical Dermatology for Doctors. Conducted by the Sri Lanka Association of Dermatologists. Date: 3rd December 1998. Time 9am - 4pm. Venue: SLMA auditorium.

3.INAUGURATION OF THE HEALTH INFORMATICS SOCIETY OF SRI LANKA (HISSL)
We are pleased to announce the inaguration of HISSL on the 15th November 1998, at 10 am at the Lionel Memorial Auditorium of the SLMA.
We invite all doctors to attend the meeting and become founder members of HISSL. If you are interested in learning more about HISSL and its constitution we invite you to visit the MEDIINFO web site at http://infolanka.com/org/mediinfo and check out last month's issue of MEDIINFO.
The programme for the inaugural meeting will be as follows:
1. Traditional lighting of the
oil lamp.
2. Introduction by the convener.

of Science and Technology, Sri Lanka.
4. Adoption of the constitution.
5. Election of office bearers.
6. Guest lecture. Telemedicine for Sri Lanka: The Future. Gamini Gunawardana

5.RESPIRATORY DISEASES RESOURCES ON THE WWW.
The WWW has many fantastic sites in Respiratory Medicine. The following list of sites and recommendations are taken from the Student Handbook of the Respiratory Module of the Faculty of Medicine, Colombo.
You can find many sites related to Respiratory Medicine at http://doradus.einet.net/galaxy/Medicine/Diseases-and-Disorders/Respiratory-Tract-Diseases
You can find information for patients on bronchiectasis at http://www.njc.org:80/MFhtml/BRN_MF.html which is published by the National Jewish Medical and Research Centre, Colorado.USA.
You can visit the Pathology Museum and view many microscopic slides and macroscopic specimens at http://www-medlib.med.utah.edu:80/WebPath/LUNGHTML/LUNGIDX.html. There are about 1800 slides, ranging from normal histology to pneumonia and lung carcinoma. This is published by the University of Utah Health Science Center, USA. This site contains self administered examinations and tutorials.
The Virtual Hospital at University of Iowa is supported by the National Library of Medicine. You can find Multimedia 'text books' on anatomical and radiological correlation, interstitial lung disease, case studies on clinical pathological correlations in lung tumours at http://indy.radiology.uiowa.edu:80/Providers/ProvidersOrgSys/OSPulmonary.html
You can find case presentations and self assessment questions on COPD,pneumothorax, pleural effusion, haemoptysis, chronic cough, etc. at http://indy.radiology.uiowa.edu:80/Providers/TeachingFiles/PulmonaryCoreCurric/PulCoreCurric.html

You can take a pre test, go through the module, and then take a post test. This is an interactive site which is highly recommended.
