LTTE ATTACKS CHINESE SHIP (99 Sep 29)
LTTE has attacked a Chinese cargo ship about 50 miles east of Muladivu on Saturday the 25th. However the Sri Lankan navy has been able to repulse the attack
The ship had been carrying fertilizer to Chennai in India when it was attacked. This is not the first time a Chinese ship was attacked by the LTTE.
Many people are of the view that the LTTE attacks civilian ships in order to discourage them from sailing in the seas surrounding the northern province.
The Sri Lankan government, it has to be remembered, supplies food and other essentials to the people in the northern province and by this type of attacks the LTTE wants drive away the shipping lines that are being hired by the government to provide the essentials to the people.
In Sri Lanka we have the situation where the government which is supposed to be fighting a war against the "Tamils" is supplying food and other items to the people while the LTTE which claims to be the sole representative of the Tamils doing everything that they can do to prevent the Tamils been fed.
