AIR LANKA RENAMED (99 Jul 14)
The national carrier has been renamed as Sri Lankan Airlines and the familiar logo by a "monara" in red, green and orange leaping into the air. The new identity has been given by the Emirates management that is in charge of the Airlines.
However there was no necessity for this change and nobody knows what the consequences of the change would be. For example it is still not clear whether the new airline would be given landing rights at airports like Heathrow. When Air Ceylon was changed to Air Lanka the authorities had to negotiate with the Heathrow airport management to win back the landing rights.
The new "monara" does not look like a "monara" at all but resembles a "diyabariya" according to a news item in the "Divaina".
