REV. ARIYASENA THERO (99 Jul 07)
It is with grief that we announce the demise of Rev. Prof. Kamburupitiye Ariyasena Thero. Rev. Ariyasena Thero was seventy three years old at the time of death.
Rev. Ariyasena was a distinguished teacher in Buddhist Civilisation at the University of Peradeniya. The Thero had published research papers not only in Buddhist Civilisation, but in diverse fields such as Political Science, Sociology and Marxism.
Rev. Ariyasena was not only a scholar Bhikku. The learned Thero took an active part in the national movement. Rev. Prof. Ariyasena knew that the Buddha had not advised the kings to dissolve their armies and that to protect the state, under certain circumstances it was necessary for the kings to command the army in war situations. The Thero had no problem what so ever in meeting the arguments of the NGO scholars and the Tamil racists of the Buddhism Betrayed variety.
May Rev. Ariyasena Thero attain Nibbana.
