PERUMAL AGAINST THE FLAG (99 Jun 23)

Mr. Varatharaja Perumal the former chief minister of the provincial council of the northern and the eastern provinces has said that more powers should be given to the provincial councils. He has also said that the national flag should be changed as it conveys the reflection of Sinhala hegemony over other communities. He has said that the national flag of a country should neither reflect the controversial mythical history nor the racial domination of the majority over the other communities.

Mr. Perumal who is being promoted by India was in that country after he unilaterally declared Eelam and fled. While in India he should have campaigned against the Asoka symbol in the Indian flag as it reflects the history as revealed by the Mahavansaya which according to the Tamil racists is an entangled web of myths. In any case why should the Indian flag represents a Buddhist symbol?

Mr. Perumal thinks the history of Sri Lanka is mythical. Could he elaborate on this and point out the so-called myths. The Lion flag represents the history and the culture of the country as a national flag should do. Mr. Perumal like all the other Tamil racists is trying to prevent the rightful place being given to the Sinhala culture, history, language and the people.
