TEMPLE TREES GREAT WALL (99 Jun 09)

"The Sunday Island" of 6th June reported that the government has taken a decision to construct a security wall around "Temple Trees" at an estimated cost of Rs. 32.6 million. The contract, according to the sources of "The Sunday Island", has been awarded to Lanka Trading and Construction (Pvt.) Ltd. The report further says that the award is "being made to this contractor for security reasons and urgency of the work in accordance with matters that had been set out in a paper submitted by the president."

While it is essential to protect the president of the country one wonders whether a wall constructed should cost so much. The money spent on this project most probably would be added to the "cost of war" and the "piece vendors" and the government itself will use these inflated figures to argue against the "war". It is high time that the government conduct the military operations against the LTTE terrorists in a systematic way, without demoralising the soldiers with "anti war" propaganda and spend money according to a plan to annihilate the LTTE.
