MAHANUWARA BOMB EXPLOSION (99 Apr 14)
Two persons were killed and fifteen were injured when a bomb weighing about a kilogram exploded in a bus parked at the private bus stand in Mahanuwara on Sunday the eleventh. The bus was Polonnaruwa bound and the police has identified the persons killed as Thangarasa Madiwaran from Kalawanchikudi and Suppiah Selvarasan.
Police believes that a parcel has been given to Madiwaran by a woman who had disappeared. It is not clear whether the bomb was meant to be transferred to some other place or whether the terrorists had wanted it to be exploded in the bus.
This is another case of the mini bomb tactics used by the LTTE to disrupt the activities of the people. The LTTE, which has been unable to recruit volunteers, is trying to boost the moral of its members by this kind of activities.
