AIR TRAFFIC TO YAPANAYA (99 Feb 03)
The Air Force, last week, recommenced civilian air traffic to Yapanaya. Earlier the LTTE had threatened and no domestic airline was willing to operate between Kolomba and Yapanaya.
No Planes carrying civilians were allowed by the LTTE after a Lionair plane was attacked. The LTTE was prepared to allow air crafts carrying civilians to Yapanaya provided they were operated by the NGO's, revealing the link between the LTTE and the latter.
The Air Force is now operating flights between Yapanaya and Kolomba for the civilians as well thus giving an opportunity for people to travel to Yapanaya.
