SAMURDHI LEADERS ATTACKED (98 Dec 16)
The Samurdhi Niyamakas (leaders) who were fasting opposite the Samurdhi authority at Battaramulla were attacked by thugs on Thursday the tenth. The fast has been temporarily called off as a result of the attack.
The Samurdhi leaders were appointed by the PA government and all of them had been either members or supporters of the PA. Howerver they were not made permanent in their appointments and they had been agitating for some time over this issue. The recent fast had also been started to pressurise the government to make them permanent.
This attack, while the PA government is campaigning to win the Wayamba elections is certainly neither going to help the Samurdhi leaders nor the PA.
