PLOTE MEMBERS RESIGN (98 Oct 21)
Twenty seven PLOTE members, on Tuesday the twentieth, resigned from nine local councils in the Yapanaya district. They belonged to the Peduruthuduwa urban council and eight Pradeshiya Sabhas.
In their letters sent to the Assistant Commissioner of Elections in Yapanaya, they had given security as the reason for their resignations.
The resignation of the PLOTE members has shown that the LTTE does not respect for any kind of democratic representation and that they want to be the sole representative of the Tamils by force. The irony is that still there are non national and foreign powers like Britain which refuse to call the LTTE a terrorist organisation. In fact they go further to apply pressure on the Sri Lsankan government to start negotiations with the LTTE.
