DISARM THE TAMIL PARTIES (98 Sep 30)
The Army and Police officers have requested the government to disarm the Tamil racist parties operating in the eastern and the northern provinces. At present the EPDP, TELO, and PLOTE carry arms not only in those two provinces but in the rest of the island as well. The offices of some of these parties in Kolomba are like fortresses and the neighbours have to live in fear.
These parties claim that they help the armed forces to defeat the LTTE. They may be interested in defeating the LTTE but that is only to eliminate the LTTE and then gain control of the east and the north.Their strategy is to use the armed forces for their benefit.
The members of the armed Tamil racist parties are involved in various crimes including murder and illegal arrests
of people. In most cases they are an obstacle to army personnel carrying out their duties.The Tamils have to be
liberated from their so-called liberators.
