TEACHING


Undergraduate

Genetics is taught in the following sections of the integrated medical curriculum of the faculty:

  • Introductory Basic Sciences Stream: Ten lectures in basic medical genetics.

  • Applied Sciences Stream: Reproductive Health Module - Six lectures in clinical genetics.

  • Behavioural Sciences Stream: A lecture on "Moral and Ethical Issues in Genetics".

  • Community Stream: A lecture on the effects of genetics on Family and Community.

  • Elective Programme: An elective of one months duration. Four places are available on this elective every year.

Postgraduate:

An integrated course in Basic and Clinical Genetics of 4 hours duration is conducted in preparation for the following Postgraduate examinations conducted by the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Colombo, Sri Lanka:

  • MS - Surgery

  • MS - Dental Surgery

  • MS - Ophthalmology

  • MS - Obstetrics & Gynaecology

  • MD - Foresic Medicine

  • MD - Medicine

  • MD - Oncology & Radiotherapy

  • MSc - Community Medicine / Dentistry

  • MSc - Medical Administration

  • Diploma in Legal Medicine and Forensic Science

  • MD - Forensic Medicine
