We treat all patients free of charge as in all other government hospitals in this country. As a result there are many financial constraints in obtaining equipment, consumables etc. For this reason, a Cardiology unit Trust fund has been set-up to obtain donations from the public.
Institute of Cardiology is also a training centre for all post-graduate student in Cardiology (period of training is 3 years at the institute and one year abroad in a recognized centre.). We also under-take undergraduate training for medical students at the Colombo Medical Faculty and it is also a training centre for nursing, electrocardiogrpahy and cardiac technicians.
Since this unit undertakes the management of paediatric congenital cardiac lesions special efforts are made to train paediatric cardiologists and cardiac surgeons. We have also established Children's Heart Project of Sri Lanka with the aim of improving the paediatric cardiac services.
