The Embassy was decorated in an elaborate manner, and the Ambassador held a welcome speech where he emphasised the importance of bringing the Sri Lankan community together. Hindu priest Mohan from Stockholm Ganesh Temple then briefly explained the history and meaning of Thai Pongal and performed a religious ceremony.

The President's Thai Pongal message was then read in Sinhalese and Tamil.
