Sri Lanka Ambassador Presents Letters of Credence to Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark

Ambassador Sudantha Ganegama Arachchi presented Letters of Credence on 25 October 2019 to the Queen of the Kingdom of Denmark Her Majesty Margrethe II at the Amalienborg Palace, as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Denmark with residence in Sweden.
At the audience with Her Majesty the Queen, Ambassador Ganegama Arachchi conveyed warm greetings from President Maithripala Sirisena to Her Majesty, and thanked her for sending the message condemning the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks and expressing sympathies to the victims. Her Majesty the Queen was informed that Sri Lanka tourism industry is now in the course of rebounding with increased tourist arrivals in the country. Her Majesty the Queen expressed her keen interest in witnessing close engagements between Denmark and Sri Lanka. Ambassador Ganegama Arachchi met with the State Secretary for Foreign Policy Jesper Møller and Head of Asia Division of the Danish Foreign Ministry Thomas Lehmann and briefed them about the current political and economic developments in the country. He also proposed to consider signing a Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Political Consultations. Both sides identified that there are specific opportunities for Danish private sector to undertake projects in the fields of port developments, energy efficiency management, water purification, and food processing. During the visit, Ambassador Ganegama Arachchi met the CEO of the ICT Chamber of Denmark and discussed the possibilities of exploring business opportunities and exchanging delegations for promoting ICT sectors in Denmark and Sri Lanka. At the Asia House, Copenhagen, Honorary Consul Peter Grøndahl hosted a reception in honour of Ambassador Ganegama Arachchi. This was attended by the Asian Ambassadors, diplomats and the members of the business community. In his speech, Ambassador Ganegama Arachchi highlighted the importance and the benefits of enhanced bilateral relations. The Ambassador visited the Copenhagen Buddhist Vihara to meet the Chief Incumbent Marathugoda Uparathana Thero and the members of the Sri Lankan community in Denmark. At this meeting, the Ambassador closely interacted with the community members and discussed their concerns related to Consular matters. The Minister of the Embassy Harsha Vithanaarachchi and Honorary Consul General for Sri Lanka in Denmark Peter Grøndahl accompanied the Ambassador to the meetings.
