A man who is alleged to have killed both his parents last morning had admitted himself to the Embilipitiya Base Hospital with serious self-inflicted injuries, the Katuwana Police said. They said the victims identified as 52-year-old A. Somawathie and 60year-old K.K. Jinadasa were residents of Uda Gomadiya at Katuwana in the Hambantota district.

The mother’s body was found at Uda Gomadiya School Grounds while the father’s body was found hanging from an Avocado tree in their home garden.

Tangalle Division Police SP C.E. Edirisinghe said the Katuwana police had visited the scene of the tragedy and during investigations it was revealed that the other two sons living in Warakapola had visited the parents on Sunday.

Police said the eldest son Karavilakandage Indika who lived with his parents was heard having a heated argument with his father over a land dispute and that this must have led to the killings.

Investigations are being carried out under the direction of Southern Province DIG Lalith Jayasinghe, Hambantota District DIG Nandana Wijeratne and Tangalle SP C.E. Edirisinghe.
