Referring to the controversy with regard to the NSB-TFC share deal, he said the workers who contributed to these funds were on the verge of losing their savings because of the questionable investments in loss-making companies. Mr. Wickremesinghe said the government was robbing the people’s savings without giving them concessions. “Soon after the war ended, the UPFA Government promised concessions to the people burdened by the soaring cost of living, but it had conveniently broken that promise,” he said and added that the UNP would give time till November for this Government to get its act together and if it does not provide the people with the much needed relief then the UNP would not hesitate to topple this Government. Mr. Wickremesinghe urged the newly appointed organisers to work hard to promote the party in their constituencies. He said organisers who worked hard would be encouraged while others who fell short of the required standard would be advised to do better but those found wanting would be expelled.
