Traffic along the Kekirawa main road came to a standstill for about three hours yesterday when angry villagers took to the roads and protested over an incident where a wild elephant attacked a trishaw seriously injuring a man, his wife and twoyear-old daughter.

The incident took place on the Ganewelpola-kekirawa main road when the victims were on their way to a clinic conducted at the Kekirawa Hospital.

They were admitted to the Kekirawa Government Hospital by the residents of the area. The incident took place on the Ganewelpola-kekirawa main road when the victims were on their way to a clinic conducted at the Kekirawa Hospital.

The elephant had collided with the trishaw after coming to the main road from the Kadawala forest. The trishaw driver had fled the area and the family was stranded inside the trishaw. The wild elephant had come running towards the trishaw and attacked it several times until the villagers came with wild life officers to chase away the elephant.

Then the villagers staged a protest by blocking the road urging wild life authorities to take immediate steps to keep the elephants away from villages.

The authorities later assured that they would take steps to chase the elephants deep into a nearby national park.
