A young Sri Lankan couple who were due to return Sri Lanka for the upcoming Sinhala New Year were burnt to death in a tragic incident reported in South Korea.

The victims U. P. Bandula (36) and his wife Suba Bagya (28) had been living in an air-conditioned shipping container-turned-home near Browns & Company in the Kimpo Town where both worked.

The tragic incident had taken place last Sunday when a fire broke out suddenly trapping them inside their container-home. According to diplomatic sources, the husband had tried in vain to escape by breaking open the container. The victims are residents of Jayasinghe Mawatha, Pahala Karagahaamuna, Kadawatha.

Neighbours said the couple had married in 2008. In April last year Suba joined the Korean company where her husband had been working.

According to their parents, the couple was hoping to return to Sri Lanka for the Sinhala New Year in April this year.
