Vehicles stoned on expressway

Police said yesterday some people are reported to have pelted stones at vehicles using the southern expressway on Sunday night near the 63 kilometre post. The complainants said their vehicles had been damaged by the miscreants who had stood atop a hilly area from where they had pelted the stones. Police said the windscreens of several vehicles had been badly damaged but none of the occupants were injured. Meanwhile expressway director (Operations) B.D.A. Bandara said that The on Saturday, which was the first Poya day after the expressway was opened 6,800 motorists had travelled on the highway after paying more than Rs.2 million as toll charges, while the expressway police had nabbed 32 drivers for traffic offences.
