Bharatha’s daughter seeks justice

Hirunika Premachandra, the daughter of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, said yesterday that her family would be compelled to seek redress internationally with regard to her father’s killing if the authorities failed to bring the killers to book. Speaking to a private TV channel yesterday, Ms. Premachandra said UPFA MP Duminda Silva’s departure abroad to seek treatment was questionable, as he had not sought permission from the police. Mr. Silva was also injured in the clash at Kolonnawa on October 8, during which Mr. Premachandra was killed. She said her father’s killers’ nature would punish them even if no legal action were taken against them. However, she said that she still trusted that either President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa (who is the new SLFP organiser for Kolonnawa) or the Chief Justice would do justice by her and her family. “I feel as though my father were an Opposition politician as only the Opposition and Mr. Vasudeva Nanayakkara speak on his behalf,” she said, charging that some government politicians were changing their tune.
