President Mahinda Rajapaksa had been successful in defeating terrorism which was considered indomitable. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse said that now he has come before people to seek a mandate to win the economic war.

The Defence Secretary said that four Presidents, ten governments, political parties and various Commanders of the Security Forces have failed to achieve this for 30 years. The President had succeeded in ushering in honorable and dignified peace without four years.

The terrorist leader and the outfit were eliminated. He said this was not the real victory. During the thirty years, the country’s development was undermined and the economy collapsed. The victory will become more meaningful only if the economic is resuscitated and its benefits are passed on to the people.

He expressed these views at a function held at Borella in connection with the special programme “Wijayagrahanaye Kathawa” launched by the Defence Secretary.
