Bellanwila Prelate criticises monks in politics
Jan 1, 2010 | |
'Buddhist monks who took to politics forgot their responsibility to propagate Buddhism and to lead the laymen along the right path. It is not easy for a Buddhist monk who resorts to politics to get rid of that bad practice. The Buddhist monks should be concious of their duty to the society', said, the Anunayake Thera of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Nikaya, Chief Incumbent of the Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya and Lecturer of the Sri Jayewardenapura University, Ven. Dr. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thera.
The Thera further said it was a matter of serious concern that many Buddhist monks were engaged in politics against the wishes of the laymen. He made these remarks whilst delivering a sermon at the opening of the Preaching Hall of Mahindaramaya temple, Wadduwa, recently. Courtesy: Daily Mirror
