The Jathika Nidahas Peramuna said yesterday that Opposition Common Candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka should be produced before a court martial for his reported allegations against Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Maj. Gen. Shavendra Silva.

Issuing a statement, JNP leader Wimal Weerawansa said Gen. Fonseka had made a controversial statement to an English weekly saying that the Defence Secretary had ordered to kill some LTTE leaders who wanted to surrender during the last leg of war.

Mr. Weerawansa charged that this was part of a plan by some elements to trap the Defence Secretary on war crime charges.

“This is a serious situation. The Defence Secretary is facing this situation because of his pivotal role in eliminating the ruthless terrorism. This is an attempt to make the ground situation suitable for a UN inquiry into war crime charges,” he said in the statement.
