“Be a great person through your acts”, says President at Nalanda College Prize Giving

The annual 2008 Prize Giving Ceremony of Nalanda College, Colombo was held on the College premises on 26th October. This time the ceremony was a very special one because the President of Sri Lanka, an old boy of Nalanda College participated as the chief guest and made the occasion more colourful.

At the welcome ceremony the President was given 'guard of honour' by the school Cadet Team. Later he inspected the Cadet parade, opened the plaque of the college pavilion and played squash.

At the Prize Giving Ceremony the President handed over ‘Best Junior Student-2008’ award to M.U.Tharindu Perera and ‘Best Student- 2008’ award to N. D. Niranda Perera. Mr Hemantha Premathilaka, the Principle of the Nalanda College felicitated the President by presenting a Memento.

The President addressed the gathering and said that the fundamental task of every school in the country must be creating courageous citizens for the country. He further pointed out that it is essential to be courageous towards the progress combating various obstructions. The President noted that people who move forward undiscouraged are the people who reach achievements and there is no competition to active people. Speaking at the Prize Giving the President called upon the entire student population to form a determination to become a great citizen through the proper behavior.

College staff, parents, old Nalandians, many politicians and distinguished guests participated at the occasion.
