Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe reiterates that a political consensus should be arrived among major parties in the south for the continuation of the peace process. Addressing a public meeting in Kalpitiya, he added that the government has told the LTTE that they should deviate from the separate state concept to discuss the other matters, including political negotiations to the ethnic conflict.
He pointed out that talking about a political solution means the negotiations on the constitutional issues and law. He revealed that the LTTE representatives who participated in the peace talks were totally unaware about the constitution and legislation. The premier said there is no point in talking with the LTTE representatives regarding these issues even if the government poses knowledge on these matters. They were engaged in war for 20 years therefore the LTTE had to seek advice from foreign countries to devise a constitution even for a separate state.
