The United States Population Institute has awarded its prestigious international population award to the Sri Lanka Family Health Bureau. The award was announced at a media conference organized to coincide with the 24th media awards ceremony of the U.S. Population Institute yesterday.
The Chairman of the Institute Vernor Fernos told journalists that Sri Lanka had maintained a satisfactory level of population growth control. He added that the country's population would reach the 23.2 million by the year 2050. International media awards were presented on the occasion to Time Magazine, International Herald Tribune, and Inter Press Service.
