The Road Development Authority hopes to look into the possibility of re-launching the construction of the Colombo-Katunayake expressway, which has been held up over the past few months.
The Road Development Authority says the preparation of financial and technical reports on the project has been handed over to Indian and Australian companies. The aim of the study report is to attract investors to resume the project.
The construction of the expressway was stopped mid-way on an agreement reached between the government and the contractor, as the Sri Lankan government did not possess the required funds. The General Manager of the Road Development Authority says that a new agreement will be signed to resume the construction work. About 35 percent of the construction work has now been completed at a cost of 3 billion rupees,
The expressway covers a distance of 24 kilometers is estimated to cost 11 billion rupees.
