UPFA Northern Province Councillors sworn in

The members of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) who were elected at the recently concluded elections to the Northern Provincial Council took oaths before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees this afternoon (17).
Kandasami Kamalendran, Angajan Ramanadan, A.Don Dharmapala Seneviratne, Anihamige Jayathilaka, Abbas Abdul Rifkhan, E. Thavanathan, Ahamed.Lebbai Yaseen Jawahir and H.M. Cry Rise were sworn in as NPC councillors at the ceremony. The newly elected seven members of the Freedom Alliance and the Muslim Congress (SLMC) member representing the UPFA were also posed for a picture with the President Government Ministers, Maithripala Sirisena, Susil Premajayantha, Nimal Siripala De Silva, Douglas Devananda, Rishard Bathiudeen, Rauff Hakeem, Deputy Minister S.M. Chandrasena, Northern Province Governor Major General (Rtd) G.A. Chandrasiri, North Central Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith and Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga were among those present at the oath taking ceremony. The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) secured 353595 (78.48%) votes by winning 30 seats including 2 bonus seats in a 38 member NPC elections last month. The UPFA registered 82838 (18.38%) votes by winning 7 seats and the SLMC won 1 seat for 676 (1.50%) votes. Pix by: Chandana Perera
