ADB provides funds for Hambantota development projects

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided funds for several development projects to develop infrastructure facilities in the Hambantota district. Under this programme, ADB has donated 49 million rupees for the construction of the new office complex for Weeraketiya Pradesheeya Sabhawa. The foundation stone laying ceremony for the building took place under the patronage of the Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa at Weeraketiya, Hambantota on 18 February.
Namal Rajapaksa, MP from Hambantota District also laid the foundation stone with the Speaker for a new office complex. At this occasion Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa MP said the government has taken measures to develop infrastructure facilities in every rural village in Sri Lanka. The Speaker further said that under the ADB programme, Sri Lankan government aims to upgrade low income Pradesheeya Sabhas, construction work of the Lunugam Vehera Pradesheeya Sabha building will also begin shortly. Chief Minister of the Southern Province Shan Wijelal De Silva, Minister G.L. Peiris and the Kamala Ranathunga MP were also present. Meanwhile Kunio Takahasi, Japanese Ambassador in Sri Lanka also announced that Japan will continue to provide funds and assistance on enhancing the living standard of the rural people and the economic development projects in Sri Lanka. Japanese government will implement three development projects in Monaragala, Ampara and Matara districts in this regard and Japan has allocated more than 24 million rupees for these development projects, he further added.
