Speaking at a press conference held at the head office of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Ven. Amila Thero said, “The people of this country know that Gen. Sarath Fonseka is a national hero who shed his blood for the Motherland thrice and eradicated terrorism from this island by ending the 30 year brutal war. He has been imprisoned today. However, Karuna Amman, who attempted to divide the country and killed dozens of people and Bhikkus has been made the vice president of the SLFP and enjoys life in the royal palace. Also the government that was compassionate enough to get down Daya Master by air while the war was going on to treat him for an ailment has denied even fresh air to the ailing hero who liberated the Motherland from tiger terrorism. This is how Rajapakse regime is expressing its gratitude. The government has failed to bring forward any charges against the General. None of the charges the government stated when he was arrested has been included for the court martial. There are issues regarding the court martial as well. The only challenge for the present government is Gen. Sarath Fonseka. First the government attempted to block the election petition. When this attempt failed they tried to stop him from contesting for the general election. When this attempt too failed the government is now attempting to let him die a natural death. The people know that Gen. Sarath Fonseka is ailing due to shrapnel from the blast of the bomb Prabakaran assembled in the North are still in his body. These shrapnel in his body is the result of his love to the country. Gen. Sarath Fonseka has not done any harm to this country. What he did was to correct the biggest wrong in the country. The only thing the ungrateful rulers could say on election platforms is the victory of the 30 year old war. However, the hero who was the main architect of this victory has been imprisoned. Hence, we call upon all people of this country to vote for the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) on the 8th on behalf of Gen. Sarath Fonseka who wiped out the threat of war and brought peace to the Motherland.
