He said the UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had criticised a number of new candidates participating in the upcoming General Election on the UPFA ticket.

He said the criticism was tasteless and unacceptable.

“He has criticised cricketer, Sanath Jayasuriya for contesting the election. The Opposition Leader has said the tsunami hit our country after Jayasuriya played for the Word Cup Cricket.

Yet the fact was that if he did well at the election it was because he had the support of the people in the Matara district which is his home town and not due to the political influence of political leaders,” he said.

“We ask Mr. Wickremesinghe to stop making such nasty comments.
