Speaking to Daily Mirror Online Minister Bathiudeen said that the government had launched an investigation and those found guilty will be deported. “Inquiries are going on and we will receive the results very soon. We have identified some NGO’s and if they are found guilty they will be sent back home,” the Minister said.

Foreign Minister Rohita Bogollagama had in his weekly meeting with the diplomats last week said that the government was looking into the suspicious funding of certain elements in society by NGO’s and INGO’s operating in Sri Lanka.

Minister Bogollagama had said that this issue raised ‘concern’ amongst the government and all possible measures will be taken to trace such transactions and identify the people and organizations involved.

Former government spokesperson Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena had also told the media earlier this month that certain countries and NGOs were attempting to put Sri Lanka in a spot by leveling human rights violation charges and had even demanded to halt the humanitarian operation to save the LTTE leadership during the time of the conflict.
