Bus carrying NPP supporters attacked in Monaragala
Sep 13 (AD) A bus returning from an election rally of the NPP held in Monaragala this morning has reportedly been attacked by a group of unidentified individuals. The attack had targeted a group of supporters who were returning from a public meeting held at the Monaragala Pradeshiya Sabha stadium, with the participation of the NPP prez candidate, Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Four persons who were injured in the attack have been admitted to the Buttala Divisional Hospital for treatment.

CB postpones 5th monetary policy review to next week
Sep 13 (TM) Central Bank announced that the Monetary Policy Review No. 05 of 2024, originally scheduled for release on the 20 Sept, has been rescheduled. The updated release date will be Friday, 27 Sept, at 7.30 a.m. According to the Monetary Policy Review No. 04 of 2024, the CB further reduces policy interest rates. ITAK reaffirms support for Sajith Premadasa
Sep 13 (Island) The ITAK decision to support SJB prez candidate Sajith Premadasa remained unchanged, ITAK MP M.A. Sumanthiran stated in response to reports suggesting the party had withdrawn its support for Premadasa. Sumanthiran emphasised that the decision to back Premadasa had been made following proper procedures and all party members had endorsed it. Sep 13 (AN) The new and cumbersome visa processing system, which has caused confusion among tourists, has prompted Sri Lanka’s tourist operators to file a lawsuit with the Supreme Court, seeking redress and take to the streets this week against excessive red tape. Currently, tourists have to spend about two and a half hours upon arrival at BIA in Colombo. Cabinet approves personal income tax relief from April
Sep 14 (FT) Following the negotiations with the IMF, the Cabinet at a special meeting yesterday approved the amendment of the personal income tax structures. The proposed structure effective 1 April next year is; i. Tax free threshold remains as it is at Rs. 1.2 million per annum. ii. Tax bands increase from Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 720,000. iii. Marginal tax rate at each band remains at 6% with the top tax rate remaining at 36%.
