MV X-Press Pearl: A blazing inferno with unimaginable consequences
Jun 3 (DM) The latest tragedy to befall SL was that of the major fire on board the Singapore-registered vessel MV X-Press Pearl off the coast of Negombo. The vessel was carrying several containers of chemicals, cosmetics and 25 tons of Nitric Acid, which on its own would not burn but would explode should it come in contact with certain substances. He is an experienced and efficient worker in providing his service, which is hard work that cannot be done by everybody – loading the tippers with sand using a shovel. 3,306 persons test positive for COVID-19, travel restrictions extended by a week

Listed companies granted more time to submit financial statements
Jun 3 (DM) The capital market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has granted a one-month extension to listed companies to release financial statements, as requested by the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). Sri Lanka prepares to face oil leak from X Press Pearl
Jun 3 (DM) SL is preparing to face a potential oil leak from the ship, X-Press Pearl, which began to sink earlier today. Navy said that the coast guard together with vessels from India are now on standby to deal with the situation. Australia donates 6,300 kg of PPEs to SL
