May 25 (Island) JVP alleges that India has re-launched a project to acquire the East Terminal of the Colombo Port, while Sri Lanka is facing severe economic hardships, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sri Lanka to expand PCR testing capacity to 6000 per day
May 25 (Island) Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said that over 50,000 PCR tests were done from January 2020 to May 24. Most of the tests were done at the MRI, she said. “When we heard about cases being reported in Wuhan, in Dec 2019, we started to prepare for any eventuality. By Jan 2020, the MRI was ready to conduct PCR tests. 35 Seychelles patients enter country
May 25 (CT) Govt, on 23 May, allowed 35 patients from the Seychelles to enter the country, which is the single largest foreign group to land at the BIA ever since the lockdown in late March. The group arrived at the BIA in a Seychelles airline, and were immediately removed to a city hotel, where they would undergo a 14-day quarantine period prior to being treated at private hospitals for various illnesses, Presidents' Additional Secretary (foreign Affairs), Admiral (Retd) J. COVID 19: Total cases climbs to 1,141
May 25 (EN) The number of COVID 19 cases detected in the country spiked yesterday taking the total since the outbreak in SL to 1,141. Fifty-two new cases were reported yesterday, the third-highest daily to be diagnosed since the outbreak. A statement at 5:30 pm on Sunday reported that 28 cases had been reported by that time. All the patients are Kuwait returnees, and were detected at Trinco and Minneriya Centres.

Sri Lanka Telecom says dealing with REvil hack, customer data safe
May 25 (EN) Sri Lanka Telecom, the island’s largest fixed line operators said a cyber attack has been mounted on a section of their internal servers which have been isolated and the threat is being dealt with. “Our vigilant early warning systems detected the attempt and precautionary measures with shutdown of some servers were implemented without delay,” SLT said. “These servers are isolated and corrective action is being taken. There is no impact to any system that is used to provide SLT services.

Erroneous private lab report given to kidney patient has been switched at hospital?
May 25 (Island) The daughter of a kidney patient, yesterday, lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission that officials at the Kurunegala Hospital had displaced a erroneous report given by a private lab. She said that her father’s doctor had asked him to undergo a blood test and he got the test done by a private lab, in Kurunegala. Kosgoda Tharaka’s accomplice Mana arrested
May 25 (DM) Manoj Harshana alias Mana, an accomplice of underworld figure 'Kosgoda Tharaka, has been arrested with over 200 grams of heroin worth Rs. 2.5 million by the STF. STF said the 25-year-old suspect, a resident of Nugegoda, was arrested during a raid at Thalapathpitiya on Saturday following a tip-off. Eighteen more COVID-19 cases confirmed in Sri Lanka
May 25 (AD) Eighteen more persons have been diagnosed as Coronavirus infected patients increasing the tally of confirmed cases in Sri Lanka to 1,182. The Ministry of Health said that all new positive cases are returnees from Kuwait. Forty-one new cases of COVID-19 have been identified so far within the day. A total of 477 patients who have tested positive for the virus are currently under medical care while the number of recoveries in the country stands at 695.

Sri Lanka curfew eased from May 26 with Coronavirus travel curbs
May 25 (EN) SL is relaxing daytime Coronavirus curfews country-wide from May 26 though travel curbs to Colombo and Gampaha will remain amid strong progress made against the spread of the Covid-19 with officials advising the public to maintain distance. As many as seven cases with regard to the general elections and prez decree dissolving parliament are pending before the Supreme Court.
