Rukman Wimalasuriya

Rukman became popular as a singer in Melbourne with the release of his first single "Sanda Kumariyage" together with a scenic video clip on the Sri Lankan TV channels and on the Sri Lankan radio programs. He has learnt the ABC of Eastern Music and to play the Esraj from Mr Gerard Fernando, the music teacher of Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa. His artistic career starts since he became the leading flutist of Ananda College Hewisi Band, after being trained by the leading classical flutist Mr. Anil Mihiripenna. After leaving school, Rukman has won the awards for the Best Singer at the Annual Singing Contest as well as for the Best Actor at the Annual Stage Drama Contest of the University of Peradeniya.

Although Rukman always enjoyed singing, he started performing in public only after migrating to Melbourne, Australia. Rukman entered the public arena as a singer by singing a fantastic collection of parts of songs related to the beauty as well as the roughness of the sea, at a concert to raise funds for the 2004 Tsunami victims in Sri Lanka. He has undertaken voice training as a student of the Vox School of Singing and is currently a student of the "Sankha Padma" School of Classical Singing conducted by Mrs. Wasana Weerakoon. Rukman's recent projects include working towards releasing a CD of songs and instrumental.
