Daya Silva

I started my singing career when I was 12 years old. My friends from Kadawatha got me as a vocalist in their band, "Humming Birds". I formed my own band, "Tharanga" in 1969. Song titles "Aachchi" & "Kurunegala" were the first two singles we recorded, in 1969. After migrating to Australia in 1976, I started my hobby back again in1980, forming the first Sri Lankan Band in Australia, named "Dinkum Lankans" with my brothers and a few friends. So far, I have released two CDs and two DVDs with originals, written and composed by famous song writers and music directors.

Since 1980s from time to time, I have organised concerts backed by "Dinkum Lankans", of popular singers such as Clarence Wijewardane, Indrani Perera and Annesley Malawane. I have sung duets with Indrani Perera ("Neela thaarakaa dilee", lyrics by Seetha Indrani & music by Rohana Weerasinghe), Neela Wickramasinghe ("Yahaluwane yeheyliyane", lyrics by Shelton Weerarathna & music by Daya Silva), and Clarence Wijewardane ("Mawu bimin dura", lyrics & music by Late Mr. Clarence Wijewardane). Two of my Country originals became number one on the Sri Lankan Hit Parade in the years 1998 & 2002 ("Sweeter than springtime" & "My heart sings").
